Local telecommunications provider Melita has just announced that one of their fibre cables has been damaged affecting service for customers in the South area.

The following localities have been impacted by the damages: Birgu, Birzebbugia, Bormla, Bulebel, Delimara, Fawwara, Fgura, Ghaxaq, Gudja, Hal Far, Kalkara, Kirkop, Kordin, Marsa, Marsascala, Marsaxlokk, MIA, Mqabba, Paola, Qajjenza, Qrendi, Safi, Senglea, Smart City, St Lucia, Tarxien, Xghajra, Zabbar, Zejtun, Zurrieq

Unfortunately, Melita's shops in Paola, Tarxien, JLJ Ghaxaq and JLJ Marsaskala have also been affected.

Despite the damages, calls to 112 (fire, ambulance, police) are designed to work from mobiles throughout any service interruption and are thus still operational.

Melita is currently working to repair the cable and will be updating customers shortly.
