Malta’s contemporary art scene is getting a new addition, with axis_ set to open in Butler’s House, Attard.
Located in a historic building close to Villa Bologna, axis_ will transform an old building into a hub for contemporary art.
As co-founder Maria McKenna noted, “the future of heritage lies in how we inhabit it, not simply how we preserve it.”
Beyond exhibitions, axis_ also "aims to build connections across the Mediterranean and Europe", providing a platform for critical artistic engagement and international dialogue.
It will open with Nothing is Clear, a collective exhibition curated by Elyse Tonna. The show, which is a satellite event of Malta Biennale 2026, opens on 10th April and runs until 29th May.
