This unearthed footage of the 1997 Easter Sunday festivities in Zejtun, shared to Facebook by Malta Audio Visual Memories, is giving us a nostalgic nod to traditional celebrations held in previous years.
The video shows the bells ringing as the band marches in front of the beautiful and glorious statue of the risen Christ.
28 years later, many villages including Zejtun still organise such processions every Easter Sunday to celebrate the rise of Christ from the dead.
Many families and tourists alike flock to the streets to watch the statue parade all around the village. The statue bearers then go on to perform the iconic run with the statue as they are returning back to the church.
