Yes Malta is small – but there are lots of options for getting around, and helping you get to the shops/museums/beaches as quickly as you want to.

Recently, I discovered Taxify – an app that makes it so effortless to book a ride right from your phone and ensures your driver will be there in minutes. The result? You get driven around Malta in air-conditioned comfort, watching the sights go by, and arriving at your destination as quickly as possible – it’s brilliant.

But beyond all that, I have also had some fantastic chats while enjoying my Taxify journeys – the drives are well-informed, interesting and fun. In fact, when I asked them to share some stories from life on the road, as well as their advice for your time in Malta, they certainly didn’t disappoint!

Do you prefer day shifts or night shifts?

Definitely night. There’s much less traffic on the roads. It’s also much cooler, and there’s actually more work. Night-time is a good time to get around Malta.

What’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened in the back of your cab?

Well… let’s just say it was more than kissing!

What’s the funniest conversation you’ve overheard while driving?

Some of the most amusing conversations cover local politics – and they can get pretty heated! I also heard a client trying to persuade his friend that Michael Jackson wasn’t real once… that was a pretty odd convo!

Have you driven anyone famous around Malta?

Yes – Nas (of Nas Daily fame) used our service once. We’ve also driven top Maltese singer Ira Losco, the XFM radio crew, government ministers, TV presenter Andrea Cassar, DJs Daniel and Ylenia from Bay Radio, and club DJ J-JOY.

What’s your favourite part of a typical day at work?

Getting to know our customers. Some of them love to chat and we have great conversations. It’s really nice when people are interested in our day and show us respect.

What place on the island do you always recommend to your clients?

There are lots and we all have our own suggestions. Marsaxlokk for the fish market, Paceville for the nightlife, Mdina for the history, St Peter’s Pool for a beautiful swim, Golden Bay for the perfect place to relax, and Valletta for the culture.

Have you ever gotten lost?

We don't often get lost because we know our way around Malta really well, but certain parts of the island are more complicated than others, especially some of the beautiful little towns and villages. Thankfully, Google is our guide – and it's there when we need it.

Why choose Taxify?

The app is very communicative, so you’re kept informed about where your cab is as all times. In short, it’s an easier, cheaper, faster and safer cab experience.
