Higher frequencies on several routes connecting popular coastal and residential areas
Malta Public Transport has announced some changes to bus route frequencies for the summer months.
The first phase of changes will come into effect on 13th June, with additional adjustments being introduced from 5th July.
Several routes connecting popular coastal and residential areas will benefit from increased frequencies.
Route 212 between Sliema and Buġibba will operate every 20 minutes throughout the day on weekdays from 13th June, before increasing further to every 15 minutes from 5th July.
Similar improvements will also be implemented on Routes 221 (Buġibba – Ċirkewwa) and 222 (Sliema – Ċirkewwa).
Routes 223 and 225 serving Għajn Tuffieħa from Buġibba and Sliema will increase from hourly services to every 20 minutes, while Route 53 linking Valletta and Rabat will operate every 30 minutes, thereby doubling the service during weekdays.
Meanwhile, frequencies on several other routes will be reduced, with MPT noting that their passenger demand typically falls during the summer months.
Routes 61 (Valletta – Ħaż-Żebbuġ), 72 (Valletta – QrendI), 73 (Valletta – Żurrieq) and 43 (Valletta – Naxxar) will operate at revised frequencies.
In line with the end of the scholastic year, Routes X1A, 150 and 207 will be suspended from 5th July.
Passengers are encouraged to check the Tallinja App or Malta Public Transport’s website for full details regarding the summer schedule changes.
