Nature's calling! Exploring Majjistral Park, where Malta’s nature and history merge
Itching for an outdoor adventure?

Francesca Vella

If you’ve been cooped up indoors during the rainy days and are craving a long hike, Majjistral Park just north of Golden Bay is the perfect spot to head to this weekend. Spanning 6 kilometres of protected coastal land, the park stretches towards Malta’s northern coast and offers a stunning natural landscape.

The park’s beauty is impossible to miss, with incredible (and Instagrammable!) coastal views of Malta’s cliffs that seem to go on forever. It’s a favourite among sunset enthusiasts, making it the ideal spot to unwind after a long day, watching the waves crash while the sun sets on the horizon. In wintertime you'll find enthusiastic hikers making their mark, while summer sees the more adventurous swimmers looking for a quiet spot to dip their feet.

But Majjistral Park isn’t just about breathtaking views – it’s a haven for nature lovers too. The park boasts an impressive diversity of plant and animal life, with hedgehogs, rabbits, chameleons, and even the odd weasel making it their home. Birdwatchers will also delight in the variety of species that can be spotted throughout the park.

In addition to its natural wonders, Majjistral Park is rich in history, featuring several archaeological sites like cart ruts, ancient tombs, and even fortifications built by the Knights of St. John.

Whether you're in the mood for adventure or serenity, or maybe a bit of both, Majjistral Park is definitely worth a visit.

Have you ever been there?
