It's always interesting to see our beloved Maltese Islands through different eyes, and that's exactly what local photographers like Joanna Demarco and Tonio Lombardi allow us to do! These two have established a reputation as photographers giving us a different view, and here, they share their personal favourite shots.

"I would say this is one of my favourite shots taken in Malta and it was of those photos I took for the fun of it. I took this with an analogue camera - I find that the experience of taking photos with such a camera is always that little bit more special. I like this picture because of its humorous aspect, which is a characteristic I like to strive for in photography. I think that Malta has a lot to offer in terms of humour, and I feel that this depicts that. The composition also came out well, which is somewhat more difficult to achieve with analogue photography."

Tonio Lombardi

Tonio Lombardi is a freelance photographic/graphic artist working primarily from Malta and other parts of Europe, specialising in portraiture, editorial, weddings and interiors. His work has appeared in numerous local and international magazines and he was named the Best Fashion Photographer at the 2011 & 2012 Malta National Fashion Awards in Malta.

“My current favourite image is this drone shot of the Freeport. It's from a running photo series named Industrial Disease, which tackles the subject of how man’s industries are gradually destroying our fragile world, while keeping in mind that beauty is everywhere - even in the little details of this modernised world." For limited edition prints of these, visit Tonio Lombardi's website here.
