Residents of Żebbuġ, Gozo were treated to a rare and beautiful sight last weekend.
This photo, which was sent to GuideMeMalta, shows Mount Etna clearly visible on the horizon.
The famous Sicilian volcano, located around 200km away, is not typically visible from the Maltese Islands.

However, in winter months, when the skies are clear and cold air winds clean the air from mists, the peak can appear from Malta and Gozo.
Standing at 3,329 meters, Mount Etna is Europe’s tallest and most active volcano and one of Sicily’s most famous tourist attractions.
Moments like this make us realise just how close Malta is to Sicily
