They’re real life superheroes

Jillian Mallia

Mother’s Day is a day to celebrate our mamas and all that they do for us. Here, we are celebrating some local mothers that are pretty incredible, inside and out.

1. Sefora Tabone

Sefora Tabone is one supermum. She is a proud mama to little Diego, who has autism. Sefora documents her life and Diego’s on her personal blog, I Am Diego, to raise awareness about living with autism.

4. Maruska Vella

This local mama has the strength of a lion. Maruska is mum to Malta’s very own triathlete Jake Vella. Jake has ROHHAD, a rare condition that makes him gain weight, no matter how much he exercises or eats correctly. Maruska supports Jake through thick and thin, from hospital visits to triathlons.

5. Sarah Cachia

Sarah Cachia is mum to Malta’s very own Titanium Man, Jacob. Jacob suffered from meningoencephalitis, an infection that entered his brain through his sinuses, in 2013. After surviving surgery, Sarah made it her mission to keep a smile on Jacob’s face. Together, they opened a pay-it-forward cafe, Jacob’s Brew in Marsaskala, to help other people going through a rough time.

6. Amy Camilleri Zahra

Amy Camilleri Zahra is another wonder woman. She is an inspiration to the nation due to the constant awareness she raises about her experience. Back in 2006, Amy contracted meningitis and, as a result, lost both her legs and parts of her fingers. Last year, she gave birth to baby Gianni, calling him a ‘miracle baby boy.’
