First off, Rebecca is a 22-year-old who has just graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Maths and Banking Finance at University (she actually had to miss her graduation as she was already in Poland by then) and has been modelling for the past six years. This year she took part in Miss Universe Malta, placing in the top five, and then was crowned Miss Supranational Malta in October.

Preparations for the competition

“There were a lot of preparations in the five weeks before I departed to Poland. The very next day following my national competition, I had my official photoshoot. I also started to brainstorm an idea for my national costume for the competition, for which I decided on wearing the concept of the national bird (il-merill).” She also had to prepare an introduction video, in which she wanted to highlight authentic parts of the Maltese Islands.

Rebecca also shares that she was training regularly at the gym, was on a strict diet to maintain her physique, as well as having to sort out outfits for the competition. “Given that the competition was going to last three weeks which involved a lot of shows and appearances, I also had to prepare many outfits and dresses to make sure I always looked appropriate.”

The competition itself

“Representing your country in that huge stage on the final night is definitely one of my favourite things that happened,” she shares. “I also really enjoyed getting to meet and work with 76 beautiful girls from all over the world who share similar passions and learning about their cultures and traditions.”

“It’s something so wonderful when you see all these girls who all have so much to offer to the world, meet together in this competition and share different views. It is safe to say that these girls are not only simply beautiful, but they’re also very intelligent,” Rebecca shares. “All these girls are so empowered, and all stand up for something which they believe in. This competition has enabled me to make friendships which I will truly cherish for the rest of my life.”

Rebecca also had a word of advice for anyone wishing to take part in pageants. “I genuinely encourage people to take part in such competitions because it is a once in a lifetime experience, in which one can learn so much and it is an honour to be standing amongst all those beautiful girls representing one’s country.”
