The meteorological office at the Malta International Airport has issued an orange warning due to the strong winds currently hitting the islands.

The orange warning will remain in effect until 6pm today.

Force seven winds are expected throughout the day with Maltese Islands Weather reporting that it might even go as high up as Force nine at times.

“The peak gusts will blow across the Maltese Islands in the late morning and afternoon on Tuesday 10th January, when they will reach Force 9 at times across exposed areas of the Maltese Islands”, they predicted.

The sea is also rough due to the strong winds with the Gozo Fast Ferry cancelling all of its trips for the day.

In fact, Maltese Islands Weather has said the waves are going as high up as “5.5 metres in peak gusts.

Although the wind is expected to subside tomorrow and Thursday, winds up to Force six and seven are still expected.
