You know that cats are a 'thing' in Malta when there is an Instagram hashtag #maltacats that has over 2500 posts and #catsofmalta has over 9000 posts! Well, after all, Malta is dubbed the ‘island of cats.’
One look and you know these are no ordinary, scraggly strays.
They’re quite fat actually.
They are beautiful and majestic.
Although some boys might be rude at times!
But generally the day’s agenda is:
Snooze in the sunshine...
...groom...
...and sleep some more.
When it’s time to eat, sit by a fisherman.
It’s work, really!
Could totally do with another nap.
And an after-nap snooze.
Home can be many places.
And, there’s an actual cat village in St Julians, Malta.
And there’s such a thing as the Independence Gardens Cat Park between Balluta and Exiles, Sliema.
This statue has been dubbed the ‘cat god’.
So yeah, welcome to Malta, the island of cats.
Fun fact:
Did you know that the cat’s purr has a frequency range of 20-140 Hertz, a vibrational frequency that may be therapeutic to humans? Purring has been linked to inducing deeper breathing, lowering stress, reducing chance of a heart attack, and even strengthening bones!
So go on, pet a cat!
