The parish of the Mdina Cathedral together with the archive’s board within the same entity will be organising ‘Ġimgħa Kbira’ - a musical-literary concert combining reflective prose and sacred music related to Holy Week.
The hour-long event links spiritual and liturgical thoughts, complemented by a premier number of local original musical works from the archives.

The Cappella Musicale Caeciliana are set to perform two lamentations related to l-Erbgħa tat-Tniebri (also known as the last Wednesday of the lent period) and ‘Maundy Thursday’ composed by Dr. Giuseppe Vella, who was Maestro di Capella of the Cathedral in 1860.
Another work that will be performed is the O Quod Undis Lacrimarum by Mr. Joseph Abela Scolaro, written for two male voices.
Additionally, the ensemble is also performing a musical piece by Canon Luigi Fenech titled 'Ego Propter Te' a hymn written purposely for Good Friday.
This event will be held for the first time in front of the Sepulcher of the Cathedral on Tuesday 4th April 2023 at 7pm.
A very detailed historical text about the sepulcher was prepared for the event.
The sepulcher itself is a result of a powerful community force that was specially designed to place the sacrament for worship to commemorate the establishment of the Eucharist during the daytime function Maundy Thursday.
The text also goes into detail about the origin and development of the sepulcher through the years, according to the liturgy of the church.
Admission for this exciting concert is free but we appreciate donations for the conservation of such work of art in the Mdina parish.
