This March, St John’s Co-Cathedral is opening its doors to a pair of cultural evenings that bring poetry, music and spiritual reflection to one of Malta’s most breathtaking Baroque landmarks.

Here’s what to expect:

Inħoll l-Ilħna u l-Ilsna Oħra

Just days before World Poetry Day, the Co-Cathedral joins forces with Inizjamed for a poetry event with a difference.

On Tuesday 17th March, at the starting times of 7:30pm and 8:30pm, Inħoll l-Ilsna u l-Ilsna Oħra will unfold as a poetic walk across the Co-Cathedral’s eight chapels – and across languages. Inspired by the historic tongues of the Knights of the Order of St John, poetry will be recited in Spanish, French, German, Italian, English and more, with translations in Maltese and/or English.

Curated by Inizjamed with artistic direction by Leanne Ellul, the evening creates a dialogue between contemporary and classical voices, set against the artistic and architectural backdrop of the Baroque marvel.

The experience will take place twice: at 7:30pm led by Maria Christina Zammit and again at 8:30pm, led by Jeremy Grech. A €10 donation is being requested from attendees.

ECCE HOMO: An Evening Of Sacred Music And Reflection

Later in the month, on Thursday 26th March, the Co-Cathedral will host ECCE HOMO, a moving evening dedicated to reflection on justice, truth and human frailty within the Passion narrative.

Under the direction of Christopher Muscat, the programme – starting at 7:30pm – will be performed by the Jubilate Deo Choir, Cappella Gregoriana Jubilate Deo and Pueri Cantores Jubilate Deo, with Ronald Camilleri at the organ.

The repertoire features sacred masterworks by Tomás Luis de Victoria, Felice Anerio, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and Gregorio Allegri – timeless compositions that will undoubtedly bring an atmosphere of profound contemplation within the Co-Cathedral’s unparalleled acoustics.

An entry donation of €10 is being requested, in aid of the Archbishop’s Charity Fund.

Ready to experience St John’s Co-Cathedral like never before?
