Today, 28th March 2024, marks the day that Malta celebrates the annual Valletta day.

Malta’s capital city was founded 458 years ago by the Knights of Saint John. It was named after the Grand Master Jean Parisot de Valette in honour of him managing to defeat Malta during the Great Siege of 1565.

He laid the first stone of the grand city but died before seeing it completed.

Recognised as a World Heritage Site, Valletta has witnessed some of Malta most important historical events during its four and a half centuries.

It unfortunately suffered immensely after being constantly hit by bombs during World War II.

In fact, even though it is one of the smallest cities in the world, it is still one of the most concentrated historic areas around the globe.

Considered as one of the most beautiful cities and destinations in all of Europe, Valletta was chosen as the European Capital of Culture in 2018. The city also happens to be the sunniest city in all of Europe.

Valletta is also home to 28 churches where five different local feasts are celebrated every year.
