Spread some joy and Christmas cheer this holiday season.
Want to do something nice for people in need this Christmas? We’ve got the perfect thing! Local NGO Help feed a family this Christmas is organising its annual collection to help citizens in Malta. Speaking to a spokesperson for the organisation, I find out all there is to know about the wonderful initiative.

They explain that the idea behind the NGO came about last year while shopping for Christmas food (and in Maltese tradition, it’s a lot!) “I was thinking that most of us are lucky enough to take food for granted. In that moment, I made a promise to myself, to feed as many families as possible during Christmas.”

They go on to explain that although last year was the first time they did something like this, the response was amazing. “This year, people who donated last year contacted me to see if I would be doing the same thing! Apart from them, the word has spread and people from all over the island have been donating.”

Such a sweet idea, right? So... how does it work? “It’s simple. I ask people to collect as many non-perishable food items as possible between family, friends or colleagues. Once a few items have been collected, they simply send a message to the Facebook page, and I pick them up. A few days before Christmas, I load up a truck and take everything to the Valletta food bank. Last year, it took us two trips!”

All food collected goes to people in need, and that's not limited to Maltese families. They are people referred to the NGO through various organisations. As a final note, they add, “if you can spare a few items, please donate. So far, the response has been outstanding! It’s very obvious that people are more than willing to help and donate.” That’s the Maltese generosity for you!
