Maltese developers design augmented reality game centred around Valletta and its history
A team from the Institute of Digital Games and the Department of English at the University of Malta are launching ‘Valletta: Streets of History’, an augmented reality game dealing with the rich history behind Malta’s capital city.
The location-based mobile game centres around a player taking the role of a detective-historian exploring Valletta.
“In each location, the player can unlock archival entries and follow a blend of fictional and historical clues pertaining to Malta’s rich past in order to unravel three different storylines inspired by personal microhistories”, the game explains.
What makes the game so incredibly amazing is that it is both educational while also incredibly fun.
The team behind the game conducted meticulous research to make the game as historically accurate as can be.
One of the game’s main aims is also to “highlight those lives and voices that - due to their social class, ethnicity, gender, or for other reasons - have often been overlooked in the popular historical narrative”.
