Maltese tennis-playing starlet Francesca Curmi continues to make waves in the international sport community…
20-year-old Curmi’s latest achievement is making it into the WTA’s (Women’s Tennis Association) top 500 world ranking of female tennis players (singles). Impressive, right?
The WTA rankings are based on a 52-week, cumulative system, wherein a player’s ranking is determined by their results at a maximum of 16 tournaments for singles and 11 for doubles.
Curmi currently stands at the 490th place, having risen an impressive 24 spots since the rankings were last calculated.
This past year has seen the Maltese starlet partake in an array of international competitions, as well as win the ITF Women’s Tour in Monastir Tunisia.
She has also made it to the Round of 16 at the ITF/TENNIS EUROPE $25,000 competition (June 2022), the quarter finals at the ITF/TENNIS EUROPE $25,000-EUPEN, BELGIUM competition (August 2022), and the semi-finals at the ITF/TENNIS EUROPE $15,000 competition (May 2022).

For 2022, Francesca Curmi holds an impressive 71 per cent win rate across all surfaces; 64 per cent on clay, 74 per cent on hard, and 50 per cent on other.
The WTA Singles Ranking is topped by 21-year-old Iga Swiatek from Poland, followed by Tunisia’s 28-year-old Ons Jabeur, and USA’s 28-year-old Jessica Pegula.
