Anna Aguis Ferrante, Malta’s first female elected Nationalist Member of Parliament has sadly passed away at the age of 97.

She was first elected back in 1980 after Agatha Barbara from the Labour party was elected in 1947.

European Parliament President, Roberta Metsola soon took to social media to pay her respects for this incredible woman.

“We kept in touch over the years. The very first thing I did when I was elected as the European Parliament First Vice-President was to write to her”, she wrote.

“I thanked her for making the path easier, for enduring so that my generation would not have to, and to promise her that I will play my part in making it easier for those who come after me”, she continued.

“A grateful Malta will miss her. May she rest in peace”.

Rest in Peace!
