Local team of enviro enthusiasts will be running a whopping 168km for #waveofchange
A local team of people who want to see the Maltese enviro thrive are coming together to carry out an incredible challenge. XFM Studio’s Trudy Kerr and awesome buddies will be running 168km around the island. That’s basically like running Malta’s length six times or running four full marathons.
A little backstory
Back in 2019, Trudy spoke to #waveofchange founder Neil Agius who had just completed a 70km swim around the island’s coast to raise awareness about plastic waste – a situation that is affecting our islands and one that is very close to the radio host’s heart.
This led Turdy and running buddy Deborah to start training to run the 126km coastline with a huge awareness campaign and clean up team. They managed to do nine clean ups on route, collecting over 6.5 tonnes of trash.
This year’s run
2020 sees an even bigger challenge: a 168km run which will include 30 clean ups on route. I mean, can we give them a round of applause?! They’ll be running on 28th and 29th March. “It’s as nuts as it looks, but let’s face it… We have to do SOMETHING!” the page said on Facebook, sharing their insane route.
“Run The #Waveofchange is much more than just a run. It is all about protecting our islands and the planet,” they say. They’re also enticing YOU to join. “Give up an hour of your time on the 28th or 29th March to join one of over 30 clean ups organised by our partners Get Trashed... EVERYTHING you need will be supplied, gloves, water, bags, instructions and even the transport to and from the clean up!” And if you do get involved, you’ll be invited to the after-event bash!
