Jake reaped multiple rewards for carrying out his responsibilities so professionally - not only did he get to meet some of the top triathlon athletes but he was also on the receiving end of a very special gift from SLT champion Katie Zaferes.

The celebrated athlete won the event and decided to pass on her trophy to Jake to add to his collection at home. Commenting on a Facebook post, Katie wrote: “Thanks for the inspiration Jake and being such a wonderful person! Looking forward to next year.”

Jake suffers from a rare medical condition that sees him gain weight despite following a healthy lifestyle. In spite of the complications that evolve from this, Jake doesn’t let it interfere with his passion for sports.

Just last month, Jake organised a charity swim from St Paul’s island to Bugibba in an effort to raise money for abandoned dogs at the Association of Abandoned Animals. Josie reveals that Jake got the idea while recovering at the ITU this July. The event was a massive success and Jake was able to raise over €3,000!

His indomitable spirit is the stuff of wonders, and Josie discloses that upon his landing in Bugibba, his first words were “dad, next time we’ll organise a longer one from Comino to Malta!”
Rock on Jake, we’re rooting for you!
