Local designer alert! This fashion house is serving up some serious resortwear looks
Summertime glam

Nicole Parnis

The local Didi Mizzi brand merges fashion with art - with ethereal prints on light fabrics that are made to flutter in the summer evening breeze. This year, the designer's collection has zoned in on complimentary blues and reds, coming together in a whirlwind of gorgeous pieces.

The collection can be worn from day to night, from pool to party, depending on the styling, and many have multiple ways of wearing them. A sarong can become a backless dress, and a floor-length printed tie-skirt can take you through to evening drinks, swished over a colour-block jumpsuit.

We caught up with the fashion designer herself for the lowdown on this hot new brand.

Hi Didi! We're loving your latest resort wear collection! Can you tell us about your brand?

Didi Mizzi is a sophisticated yet edgy womenswear brand which boasts bold colours and current manipulations of classic cuts for the woman who wants to exude elegance with ease whilst standing out from the crowd in wearable art.

I always add my artistic flair by incorporating my own original paintings that represent my design inspiration. I have hand painted and printed my artwork onto various fabrics which gives each collection it’s uniqueness.

How did you get into fashion and where did you train?

I’ve been passionate about drawing, painting and anything creative ever since I can remember, which resulted in me excelling in art throughout my education from San Anton to Sixth Form in the UK, and after an Art & Design Diploma in which I specialised in fashion. This then led me to a Bachelors Degree in Spain where I completed a fashion course covering design, marketing, pattern making and construction. I believe each of these are equally important when hoping to have your own brand, and I graduated with a First Class Honours degree.

While I lived in Spain I was offered the opportunity to take part in international fashion shows alongside top designers and artists such as Abed Mahfouz and Elton John, which gave me a great boost and allowed me to peek into the fashion world. I then shared my designs on social media where they all sold, which only strengthened the sureness of my path. The goal was always to be able to share my art in a creative way which would be useful- not only to be viewed on a wall.

What is the best part about being a fashion designer?

The hardest part of this is always saying bye to each of the garments after spending months on the journey of creating them, from the early painting stages to the final fittings. However, it’s also my favourite part as from then I get to see so many of my garments on amazing people, being worn in beautiful settings around the world.

Fantastic! What are your hopes for the brand?

My goal is to be able to expand my brand further than womenswear and share my art with people who enjoy it in a multitude of ways. This is just the beginning and I can’t wait to show everyone what’s next!

Thank You Didi! We can't wait to see what's next in store!
