Live cribs have become an integral part of local Christmas traditions across several towns in Malta and Gozo. Families and members of each locality generally pool their resources together to put up a spectacular re-enactment of events surrounding the birth of Jesus. Either by lending a hand with the set up or by taking up robes and impersonating a biblical character during its opening hours, it is truly an event that unites society together.

Malta’s largest live crib is found on the smaller island of Gozo and just as in previous years, Betlehem f’Ghajnsielem is set to expand further. With such a large scale production comes an even larger demand for actors, and this season you and your family might well be in the running for an exciting Christmas.

Through a Facebook post, Betlehem f’Ghajnsielem issued a public call for members of the public to join their ever growing team: “For this year's edition we need more actors including a family or individual in the Blacksmith's room,” the post read. In the past, whole families including young children have joined the experience with great enthusiasm as well as craftsmen who displayed their skills during the exhibition.

The team is also inviting anyone who might want to experience the live crib from an organisational perspective to also get in touch. All those interested in taking part in this season’s biggest Christmas themed event can contact the organisers through Facebook.
