Lights out! Locals react to nationwide power-cut on the Maltese Islands
Looking on the bright side… oh, nevermind!

Many on the Maltese Islands woke up to utter chaos this morning, with a nationwide power cut hitting the island at around 7:30am. As locals struggled to come to terms with the situation – not ideal two days before Christmas – many (predictably) took to social media to voice their frustrations.

The reactions varied from outrage and frustration to panic and hilarity, leading to some very interesting statuses, comments and discussions.

Local YouTuber Daniel Azzopardi is always among the first to lend some comic relief to any situation, and he didn’t fail this time, calling for a generator to be added to his Christmas List!

Another user chose to look at it positively, pointing out that Christmas vetches, commonly used to decorate local cribs, need the dark to grow… so the power cut could actually a good thing (er, maybe!)

There were also those that called for Malta’s 2004 Eurovision Song Entry ‘On Again, Off Again’ to be made our national anthem… touché!

Others, like local model and DJ personality Valentina Rossi, felt sorry for those who risked losing their Christmas feast, with another user commenting, “And we all sit and watch the food for Xmas slowly defrost” – ouch!

Thankfully, the power began being restored to different parts of the island at around 11:30am, so despite that rather large glitch in the matrix, we can now all get back to our daily business. Were you affected by the power cut?
