The much-awaited yearly appointment of BirguFest by candlelight came and went this weekend. The city transformed into a sea of lights, oozing history and culture every way you look. Did you miss out on this spectacular event? Here are some awesome shots taken by locals during this year’s edition.
1. The decorations were the bomb, brightening up the gorgeous ancient city
2. Thousands of candles of all shapes and sizes were placed around Birgu
3. Did you know Birgu was one of the first locations to be supplied with electricity in the 1890s?
4. All electric lights were switched off and replaced with candles in every nook and cranny
5. The city looked beautiful, all light up. It seemed like the stars had come down just for the night
6. Locals got creative with candles, and this year glass jars were used to be more sustainable

Isn’t she a beauty? BirguFest featured a number of local talent, historical re-enactments and many establishments and cultural sites were open to the public until early hours. The Inquisitor’s Palace was one of them, and luckily restoration works were finished just in time for the festival. Check it out below!
