Even the greatest sand castle builder would be impressed by these works of art.

Immensely talented local sculptor Raphael Mizzi is showing us that you don’t need an art studio to work on your craft. The natural environment can provide you with all you might need.

His latest work - a male torso - was completed at Ghajn Tuffieha Bay.

“Been a long time since I wanted to do a male torso. This is modeled on ‘Gaddi Torso’ which is a Hellenistic sculpture of the 2nd century BCE,” he wrote.

“This took me around 16 hours over three days to build it up to a satisfactory level [...] Thanks to all my friends who came to support, bring food, drinks, and questions and to all the interesting people I met from all over the world,” Raphael continued.

Another one of his works, completed earlier this month, depicts Greek icon Antinous, the lover of Hadrian. This was also finished at Ghajn Tuffieha Bay after 12 painstaking hours of work.

If the exquisiteness and detail of these sculptures weren’t remarkable enough, these incredible pieces are all crafted using organic materials found on site.

Items including organic clay, stone and driftwood - found washed up on beaches - helped Raphael create these amazing sculptures.

Amazing work, Raphael - so inspiring!
