Malta has participated a total of 36 times.
It’s that time of the year again! The Eurovision Song Contest will be taking place this week in Liverpool, and Maltese Eurovision enthusiasts are anxiously waiting to see how The Busker will do in Tuesday’s semi-final. But first, here’s a run through of all of Malta’s entries since it’s very first Eurovision Song Contest.
Malta first took part in 1971 and then again in 1972 and 1975. This was followed by a long break of 16 years, after which the country decided to take part again in 1991. Ever since then, Malta is yet to miss a year.
Hit song after another has been sent, but no artist has managed to take first place as of yet. Malta has come close on a handful of occasions, with Ira Losco and Chiara coming in second place in 2002 and 2005 respectively but that first place has unfortunately always been out of reach.
