Is Valletta getting a vintage makeover? Not quite – it’s likely another film set!
Valletta’s iconic streets have once again caught the eye of locals and passers-by – but this time, not just for their historic charm. Recent photos shared by Charles Bonaci on Facebook show some curious new additions to the capital’s facades, sparking conversation (and a bit of nostalgia) online.
Among the eye-catching updates are colourful signs reading ‘Valletta Vault’, ‘Cassar Haberdashery’, and simply ‘Confectioner’, all mounted on brightly painted doors. While these charming boards might look like they belong in a classic Valletta scene from decades ago, they’re actually part of what seems to be a film set.
Given that filming for ‘Enola Holmes 3’, the third chapter of Netflix’s hit franchise starring Millie Bobby Brown, is currently underway in Malta, many are guessing these temporary storefronts are linked to the production. Still, considering how often Valletta becomes a backdrop for international films, there’s no certainty just yet.
Charles, who shared the photos, noted the bittersweet nature of the transformation. ‘Only thanks to the film set do these facades look so charming… it’s a shame they’ll be dismantled and discarded in just 15 days.’
He added that he wished certain entities could preserve and maintain the displays even after filming wraps up, and he might not be alone!
