Introducing the stars of this weekend’s clowning show: Ernesto & Bianca
Jacob Piccinino and Heloise Suire talk about their new play, red noses, and – of course - tea!

This Friday 16th March, the stunning Teatru Salesjan located in the heart of Sliema, is set to become the heart of the community with their new performance season, organised together with Culture Vulture, and aiming to bring families together to experience the power of the theatre. It kicks off with a performance of clowning show Ernesto & Bianca, and we were lucky enough to catch up with the two performers ahead of their big show!

Culture Vulture

1. What do you love about clowning around?

Clowning gives us an opportunity to be 'foolish' and to have no filter to our emotions. If the clowns feel sad, they project it physically without holding back. We love the fact that 'clowning' is truly a relationship with the public and that the clowns always have to react to how the audience are reacting.

2. What are the key qualities of a clown?

Honesty, improvisation and an awareness of what is going on the stage and in the audience.

Culture Vulture

3. What’s your favourite clown word?

Heloise: Moelleux – mellowness/smoothness of taste
Jacob: Landa (watch the show to find out what this is!)

4. What’s unique about the play, Ernesto & Bianca?

Ernesto & Bianca talks about the journey of self-acceptance – only when the characters accept the different elements of their own personality can they start to love one another.

5. Will there be any juggling or tricks?

There will be a lot of unexpected tricks (involving a hoola hoop), as well as choreography and music in some scenes.

6. What’s with the red noses?

The red nose is simply an accessory. You could still be a clown without wearing one.

Culture Vulture

7. What do you take for tea – and, any cakes with that?

Earl Grey with a lot of biscuits.

8. Does Ernesto get the girl?

Does Bianca get the boy? :)

Ernesto & Bianca will be presented from the 16th to the 18th of March at 6:30pm and is recommended for children aged 7 plus. Nannus and nannas go free! For tickets and more info, go here.
