The Senglea Local Council is set to bring history, culture and community spirit together through a unique event titled Ħġejjeġ, which will take place on 27th June from 7:30pm until 11:00pm.
Organised as part of the Cultural Region 2026 programme by the Harbour Region in collaboration with the Senglea Local Council, the Fgura Scouts and the Human Rights Directorate, the event will celebrate the rich historical and cultural heritage of the city.

Inspired by the traditional ħġejjeġ custom, the initiative will transform several historic areas of Senglea into a cultural route featuring eight different locations. Local artists will perform live musical displays at each stop, marked by traditional bonfires, while an interactive map will guide visitors throughout the experience.
This initiative is an example of how cultural heritage can be brought to life through collaboration between local councils, organisations and the community. The project not only preserves an important tradition linked to Senglea and the Harbour Region, but also creates an inclusive environment for families, artists and visitors.
The evening will conclude at Fort St Michael, where the final bonfire will be lit and a short documentary exploring the history and significance of the Ħġejjeġ tradition will be screened.
Visitors will also be able to make use of a free tourist train service connecting all event locations, while workshops focusing on food, music and storytelling will also be held.
Registration is required for all workshops.
