We love a good throwback photo that shows a time gone by on the Maltese Islands. This one shows an incredible shot of Birkirkara’s Valley Road from way back when.

The photo shows the old fountain in operation, from which a horse is happily taking a drink, in the middle of what is now Valley Road. And yes, you’ve guessed correctly, that's where McDonald's is currently found. The fountain is actually still there to this day, with a bus stop to its left. See? Times have really changed.

One local who commented on the photo said that it was probably taken towards the end of World War II - do you remember what the are was like before McDonald's opened there?
