Iconic Gozitan beach Xatt l-Ahmar crumbles due to yesterday's Force 9 winds
Shook does not begin to explain our reaction

With the winds having subsided and the ferry service back to normal today, most Gozitans heaved a sigh of relief at having life return to relative normality. However, the storm’s aftermath has revealed some serious structural damage to the little island’s coastline, that has sectioned off a large chunk of the immensely popular rocky beach from the larger area.

In a Facebook post earlier this morning, Ghajnsielem mayor Kevin Cauchi revealed the full extent of the storm's damage. Large rocks which cascaded from the nearby slopes can be seen piled onto one of the swimming areas, effectively blocking off the path that connects the area together. Councillor Larry Buttigieg and Frank Saliba have temporarily cordoned off the area to prevent further danger to both structure and human life.

The mayor revealed that his office has officially asked for the Ministry's assistance to preserve and restore the area. However, due to the strong undercurrents, no work will be initiated in the coming days due to accessibility issues. Visitors are being instructed to steer clear of the site until the situation is evaluated properly.

When she’s not having a quarter-life crisis, Caroline is either drawing in a café, frittering her salary on sushi or swearing at traffic in full-on Gozitan. There is also the occasional daytime drink somewhere in the equation. Or two. A creative must be allowed at least one vice.
