Huh? Mosta’s traffic directions have been reversed & we’re hella confused
You’re not alone!

If you’ve driven through Mosta centre over the past few days, you might have been left a little shooketh after traffic direction was reversed. Eucharistic Congress Road, one of Mosta’s main streets and the one directly opposite the Dome now has traffic heading towards the church rather than away from it, with a number of other key streets having the same reversal.

And in true Maltese fashion, locals reacted pretty strongly to the change that has apparently been in the works for quite some time and actually was that way a while ago. The new traffic direction is set to remain this way (with traffic heading towards the church) for the next few months as the town undergoes certain roadworks.

Xi gmiel... that’s an entrance for a majestic church!” one Facebook user said. Others have raised concerns about the potential increase in traffic accidents. However, Jason Micallef, former Mosta councillor even motioned to have these reversals made permanent. “My appeal is that, in a few weeks’ time when everyone realises what the centre of Mosta and its commercial centre lost, that Eucharistic Congress Road remains as is.”

Insomma, thank God bollards were secured at the junction near the church because knowing most local drivers, as we say, kienu jibqghu ghaddejjin wrong way!

You can check out the full redirection plans in the area as per the council’s map below:
