Malta’s scorching summer seems to finally be abating and while a good portion of us are already fluffing their Ugg boots at the first sign of cool, grey weather, the rest are in the process of mourning their tan lines.
If you form part of the latter, then autumn is probably not amongst your favourite time periods of the year. Not only do you have to deal with a significantly reduced dose of Vitamin D, but fresh off your summer vacation, you must start saving up for Christmas presents for a gazillion family members. But don’t worry, we got you – here are some tips and tricks to help you beat the seasonal sludge.
1. Have some fun without the sun
We associate summer with breathtaking excitement and the one trick to ensuring an easy transition through winter is by allowing yourself as much downtime as possible.
Miss hanging around at the beach with your friends? Substitute with bonfires (where legal) or replace with movie and food nights at home. Never got to beat the other team at beach volley ball? Why not gather everyone and try an indoor team sport instead? Miss jumping in the sea? Why not take up winter-time diving?
2. Explore Malta
Just because we get less sun, doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. Malta not only has beautiful seas but also stunning coastlines which make for the perfect trek, hike or even a camping trip.
3. The great big wardrobe makeover
A lengthy period of grey weather can drain the colour out of your life. Inject it back by investing in some bright outfits. Be the sun, where there is lack of it.
4. You are what you eat
Speaking about injecting colour, time to have a look at your food. No need to stick to boring grey-green minestras for your daily supplements. Why not try some funky, brightly coloured soups like beetroot or pumpkin?
5. Netflix and chill
If Autumn weather makes you feel tired, then it’s time to switch to your Netflix tactic and have a breather. Avoid sad series and films and opt for funny, cheerful or light-hearted material instead.
Still, while there are many ways of getting your dose of energy, nothing beats the vibrancy you generate from the sun. If you haven’t seen it for a couple of days, and you catch a glimpse of it peeking out from behind the clouds, we recommend you ‘pull a Londoner’ and run out after it like there’s no tomorrow!
