Hot damn! Will Europe’s record-breaking heatwave affect the Maltese Islands?
We’ve had quite a few this summer already!

It’s getting VERY hot in parts of Europe, raising temps to anything as high as 40°C! Places like France and western Europe are bracing themselves for another record-breaking heatwave. So much so that a nuclear power station in France was forced to shut down for a short while, and the heat is expected to challenge the cyclists of the Tour de France this week. Yikes!

Countries like Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands are likely to experience over 40°C temps for the first time on Thursday. Paris could also see its all-time record temperature since 1947 (a whopping 40.4°C) beaten, as reported by the Times of Malta.

Various authorities around the continent have issued health warnings encouraging the older population and other vulnerable people to take particular care in the scorching heat. Temperatures could exceed the all-time high of 38.5°C on Thursday in Britain, with asthma sufferers being warned of a “toxic cocktail” that is hot, humid weather and rising pollution levels, which could affect 5.4 million people in the UK alone.

The unbelievable heatwaves have caused electricity surges around Europe, as they did in Malta a few weeks ago, with measures being taken accordingly. But the question on everyone’s mind is: will the Maltese Islands be affected by yet another heatwave?

Malta’s temps will reach maximum highs of 34°C with feels like temps climbing to 38°C today and on Saturday, 37°C tomorrow, and between 34°C and 36°C until Tuesday next week. UV indexes will climb to 10 over the course of the week. While we won’t be getting an extreme heatwave with scorching temperatures of over 40°C, locals are still encouraged to take care during the sun’s peak hours. So slap on that sunblock, hydrate, and cover up when possible.
