Hold on tight Malta! ‘Polar airmass’ approaching Central Mediterranean will result in severe gale force 9 winds tomorrow
Hold onto your hats: we're in for a wild ride as powerful winds sweep across our islands tomorrow, possibly reaching the intensity of a severe gale!
According to a recent update from the Facebook page Malta Weather, a robust high-pressure system hovering over Northwest Europe will funnel a polar airmass toward the Central Mediterranean, triggering the formation of a low-pressure system over Italy.
This clash of weather systems will give rise to a hybrid Mistral-Bora wind pattern, veering from west-northwest to north-northwest, expected to impact the Maltese Islands on Friday the 19th of April 19, from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm CEST. Along with this, cooler temperatures and sporadic rain showers are anticipated.
Peak wind gusts could soar up to 82 km/h, reaching Severe Gale Force 9 levels in the afternoon.
Consequently, maritime services may face disruptions, with sea waves potentially towering up to 6 meters high and local infrastructural damage not ruled out.
Despite the blustery conditions, rainfall remains scarce over Malta, adding to the dry spell.
