It seems like Jurassic World will be making a return to Malta as reports state that filming will take place in July this year with Scarlett Johansson at the helm of the movie.

A Times of Malta (TOM) article reveals that the production behind the franchise has booked almost all facilities at the Malta Film Studios in Kalkara for this summer. It is said that filming is set to continue up until September.

TOM highlighted that the franchise will only film part of the most recent movie in Malta and there will be no other shoots scheduled on location.

So far, not many details have emerged about the upcoming franchise movie. Despite so, back in March, the Hollywood Reporter stated that Universal is aiming to release the move on July 2, 2025.

This movie would form part of the extensive 30-year franchise. The first ever released movie was Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park in 1993. This was followed by its sequel The Lost World in 1997, Jurassic Park III in 2001, Jurassic World in 2015, Fallen Kingdom in 2018 and its most recent, Jurassic World: Dominion in 2022.

Jurassic World: Dominion’s filming started in 2020, when its cast and crew flew to the islands to bring the movie to life, through the streets of the capital city.
In the movie, the capital’s St George’s Square became a scene of chaos as dinosaurs overrun the area. The scene features renowned actors Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard navigating through Valletta’s streets.

Upon its release, it became the third highest-grossing film of 2022 and grossed a total of $1,004 billion (€911 million) worldwide.

Malta is no stranger to the big screen as it has been featured in multiple movies and series. This includes the much-loved Game of Thrones, Queen of the South, Gladiator and World War Z among others.
