Heritage Malta's summer spectacle! A journey through the agency’s vibrant events for the new season
Get up close and personal with Maltese heritage

GMM Team

As the summer sun casts its warm embrace over Malta’s picturesque landscapes, Heritage Malta invites locals and visitors alike to embark on an enthralling journey through a tapestry of cultural experiences. From exclusive members' events to thrilling re-enactments, there's something for everyone to savour in the upcoming months.

Heritage Malta

Heritage Malta members are in for a treat as they get up close and personal with Maltese heritage. A curated tour at the Inquisitor's Palace in Birgu will acquaint them with the evolution of traditional Maltese bridal attire. In August they will plunge into the depths of Malta's underwater cultural heritage. As summer wanes, an excursion to the Bidnija Olive Grove will offer them a hands-on exploration of Malta's olive-producing legacy.

For enthusiasts of hidden treasures, Heritage Malta will continue to open the gates to sites that are normally closed, including the historic Villa Frere and the enigmatic Ta' Bistra Catacombs. A highlight awaits at the Abbatija tad-Dejr Catacombs Complex in Rabat, a rare opportunity to step into one of the oldest burial sites on the island.

Re-enactment aficionados will be able to travel back in time in the yearly special opening of Fort St Angelo on Victory Day, which will offer a whole day of festivities with reduced admission.

Guided walks with the knowledgeable Mario Coleiro offer a unique perspective on Maltese history, while the Night at the Museum series invites visitors to explore Fort St Elmo and the Malta Maritime Museum under the stars.

The popular summer cruises add zest to the mix, as we make our way to our archipelago’s most curious spots. This year we are heading to the legendary St Paul’s Islands. Filfla - the flat-topped islet swathed in silence and mystery - is of course on our summer itinerary too!

Families are spoilt for choice when it comes to delighting their young ones, with children's activities ranging from cookalongs to educational courses on fascinating creatures like bats and sea birds. The Student Summer Programme promises young learners an enriching experience to make the most of their Heritage Malta student passport.

Conference-goers can explore the depths of our seas at the Clean Oceans conference, and then get an exclusive first insight into the latest archaeological findings from the Domvs Romana at the Melite Civitas Project Conference.

The astounding Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Complex

As the start of summer and autumn approaches, Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Archaeological Park beckons visitors to welcome the new seasons amidst its mystical air, echoing with the whispers of ages past.

Intriguing exhibitions will shed light on pivotal moments in Malta's history. From a photographic journey and an analysis of Malta's iconic shop facades at MUŻA, to a zooming-in on the dramatic slave revolt on its 275th anniversary at Birgu’s Inquisitor’s Palace, to a historic reunion of the two Cippi at the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta, each exhibition opens a window into the island's rich history and fascinating cultural weave.
