Malta has long been known for its glorious weather, currently being demonstrated by the sunny skies, and here’s some data to back it up.

According to world statistics blog Maps Interlude, Malta’s capital Valletta ranks as the second-sunniest capital city in Europe.

With an impressive 3,054 hours of sunshine per year, Valletta is outshone by just one European capital: Nicosia, which tops the ranking with a blazing 3,314 hours annually.

The figures may come as a surprise to anyone who has experienced Malta’s recent stretch of unusually cloudy and gloomy weather. However, statistics tell a bigger story, and Malta’s long-term climate record firmly secures its place among Europe’s sunniest destinations.

Forecasts suggest the recent return of the island’s trademark blue skies is expected to stretch till the end of this month, giving everyone on the island the perfect excuse to soak up some continent-leading winter sunshine.

Any plans to soak up the sun?
