Heads up! Motorists warned to drive carefully on these dark roads on the Maltese Islands
If you’ve been driving back after countless nights out during the holiday season, you’d have probably noticed that both the Ghadira Bay road and the Coast Road have been pitch-black.
Local Facebook page Maltese Roads Traffic Updates notified the public that “several street lights are not working along the whole stretch of the coast road” and that “the whole stretch of Ghadira bay road is also without working street lights.”

The Coast Road’s lights have been out for a few months now, according to locals. Ghadira Bay’s however were reported to Enemalta and were switched back on, according to a comment posted by Ivan Castillo, a minority leader in Mellieha’s Local Council, on the thread.

While many locals have complained about the pitch-dark situation and ask for it to be resolved as soon as possible, others don’t quite agree it’s the way to go. Foreign highways and other parts of the island aren’t lit at night for environmental reasons, primarily. Whether or not the Coast Road lights will be turned on, we do ask you not to use your brights. No one likes that glaring light in their rear-view mirror! #Respect
