Travellers, take note – thousands of flights across Europe are expected to be disrupted over the coming days due to major air traffic and national strikes in France and Belgium.

France’s air traffic controllers have announced a nationwide strike expected to take place from the morning of Tuesday 7th October (tomorrow) until the morning of Friday 10th October. Travellers are advised to expect flight delays and cancellations throughout this period, particularly on routes passing through French airspace.

A separate nationwide strike in Belgium is also expected to bring operations to a standstill. All outgoing flights from Brussels Airport will be cancelled on 14th October, affecting passengers travelling to and from the country.

The European Consumer Centre has reminded passengers to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport. Travellers are also encouraged to familiarise themselves with their air passenger rights, including the right to rerouting, reimbursement, meals, and accommodation where necessary.

While these strikes are considered extraordinary circumstances, meaning no financial compensation applies, passengers remain entitled to essential assistance from their airline. Check your rights as an air passenger here.
