Heads up! Force 7 winds across Malta bring rough seas and ferry cancellations
The Sliema–Valletta ferry has already been cancelled due to strong winds.

Looks like the grey weather from the weekend will be continuing into this week!

Weather page Aġġornament tat-Temp has eased concerns about a possible cyclone heading towards the Mediterranean, confirming that the system should miss Malta. However, the islands are still in for some unsettled conditions over the next few days.

Rain is expected across Malta from late morning to late afternoon today (Monday 16th March), with isolated showers likely to continue until Wednesday 18th March.

Strong winds are also on the way. They are forecast to peak at Force 7 late tomorrow (Tuesday), before easing slightly. Moderate winds averaging Force 5 to 6 are expected to persist for most of the week.

The gusty conditions have already started to disrupt sea travel. The Sliema–Valletta ferry service has been cancelled for the rest of today (Monday) from 9am.

While no additional cancellations have been announced so far, passengers should keep an eye on updates for the Three Cities–Valletta ferry and the Gozo Highspeed ferry, which are often affected by strong winds and harbour swell.

With St Patrick’s Day celebrations traditionally taking place in St Julian’s, many will be hoping the worst of the winds pass without dampening the festivities. If you plan on braving the grey skies anyway, now’s the time to invest in a bright green raincoat!

Are you ready for a wet St Patrick’s?
