Net News was informed that the decision for the San Gejtanu feast to be cancelled was agreed upon and an official statement will be released later on.

However, the San Girgor committee has spoken out. “The Committee of the Musical Society of San Girgor Sliema AD 1987, regretfully announces that in light of the circumstances related to the spread of Covid-19 and after discussions with relevant authorities, it has been decided that the marches for the 2020 feast are to be cancelled,” the committee’s secretary Dr Jean Paul Sammut wrote in their public Facebook group.

“The health and safety of the members and parishioners comes first and foremost. We appeal that everyone adheres to the authorities’ instructions so that the pandemic is controlled.”

Following suit, the Philharmonic Society of King’s Own also announced that the march of the San Duminku festa due to take place on 1st August will be cancelled after a unanimous vote was cast.

This comes after the Union of Band Clubs called for “prudence and maturity” at any feast-related celebrations. Yesterday, the Lija band club announced that their march will be cancelled in light of the recent events.

Do you think more band clubs will follow suit?
