Greenpeace ranks Valletta in first place for its public transport ticketing system
While Valletta ranked first, Malta as a whole country ranked second.
The worldwide environmental organisation, Greenpeace has just released a study in which it ranked Valletta as the best city in Europe for its public transport ticketing system.
This is largely due to the fact that Malta’s Public Transport is free to use for all Maltese residents that have a tallinja card.

On the other hand, Malta as a whole country took second place after scoring 88 points while Luxembourg took first place with Estonia ranking third.
Greece, Croatia and Bulgaria ranked last.
Greenpeace carried out such a study to analyse which European country had the most affordable public transport and therefore made it easier for citizens to get around in a more efficient way for the planet.
“This measure would reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and our greenhouse gas emissions, improve the quality of our environment and help people cope with rising energy prices”, the study expressed in its introduction.
