Local icon, the voice behind some of the most legendary Maltese folk songs, Carmen Tanti has passed away at the age of 75.

Carmen, together with her husband Joe and their friend Charles Bajada formed the beloved ‘Greenfields’ back in 1970 and soon rose to fame with their charming and catchy Maltese tunes.

Joe is now the only surviving member left after Charles died back in 1990, leaving him and Carmen to continue as a duo.

Just last November the duo was honoured with the ‘Mertu Santa Venera’ from the Santa Venera local council for their incredible work throughout the years.

The couple had two children, Clive and Myra.

Social media soon flooded with many family, friends and fans sharing their respects.

“Love you Mum. RIP”, her son Clive wrote this morning.

“Shocked and saddened at this news this morning[…] We are honoured to have shared amazing experiences with you and your dead husband Joe Tanti. Continue smiling that smile that steals every heart that comes across it”, fellow musician, Ivan Farrugia expressed.

Malta Audio Visual memories also uploaded a sweet montage of Carmen performing on television throughout these past 50 years.

Rest in Peace Carmen!
