Gozitan singer SLAYS at the Discovery International Pop Music Fest in Bulgaria

She’s done it! Gozitan singer Ruth Portelli came, saw and conquered at the Discovery International Pop Music Festival in Varna, Bulgaria, taking home the trophy! #YASQueen!

Ruth performed two songs, an original called Determinata  (meaning ‘determined’ in Maltese) written by local lyricists Emil Calleja Bayliss and Mark Scicluna, as well as the world-renowned song Think of Me from the musical, The Phantom of the Opera.

Who is Ruth Portelli?

Back in 2010, Ruth competed in the Malta Eurosong with Three Little Words, and this past year, she’s been pursuing her musical career futher. She performed her song Ghaliex Tlaqt  (Why Did You Leave) in the last edition of L-Ghanja tal-Poplu as well as taking part in the musical Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat held in Gozo a few months ago.

The prestigious festival

This was the 28th edition of the Discovery International Pop Music Festival, which has seen a number of familiar Maltese faces who did well in the competion. Marvic Lewis, Mark Tonna, Olivia Lewis, Julie Zahra, Ludwig Galea, Roger Tirazona, Eleanor Spiteri, Janvil, Domenique, Deborah C and Janice Mangion were among those who performed at this Fest over the years.
