Good news! Enza the sea turtle is swimming again, thanks to Malta’s wildlife heroes
The result of five months of intense rehab plus a lot of work and resilience!

Francesca Vella

There’s one tough survivor currently living at Xrobb l-Għaġin, and her name is Enza. Back in January 2025, Enza, a loggerhead turtle, was brought to the Wildlife Rescue Centre in a heartbreaking state. One of her front flippers had been severely injured by marine debris, leaving bones exposed and her future uncertain.

But rather than give up, the centre’s dedicated veterinary team made a bold decision not to amputate immediately, but to try everything possible to save the flipper.

Five months later, Enza is swimming again. Not just surviving, but thriving in her rehabilitation tank, using the partially saved flipper like a champion!

Loggerhead turtles like Enza are known for their strength and long migrations, but even the toughest marine creatures struggle to survive man-made dangers like plastic pollution and abandoned fishing gear. Enza’s case is a powerful reminder of what’s at stake, and why centres like Nature Trust – FEE Malta matter so much.

If you ever spot a turtle in trouble, call Nature Trust’s emergency line on 9999 9505. And if you’re out enjoying Malta’s beaches this summer, do your part – pick up any litter you see and avoid leaving behind plastic or fishing gear.

Here’s to a full recovery, ENZA – may the waves welcome you back soon!
