Strawberry enthusiasts will just have to wait a while longer to get their fix.
The miserably glum weather forecast for this weekend has put a damper on a lot of people’s plans, not least the organisers of Festa Frawli.
On their Facebook page this morning, they announced that this year’s edition of the Festa has been postponed, with the event rescheduled for Sunday 28thApril, instead of this coming weekend.
The much-anticipated strawberry festival event has been held in the town of Mgarr since 2007. According to Mayor Paul Vella, the event was started to spotlight something unique and local about the town, which famously produces some of the most succulent and delicious strawberries on the island.
Since then, the event has snowballed and now, every April, strawberry fans eagerly await the festival, where a vast range of strawberry-themed goodies, including pastries, cakes, liqueurs and ice cream, are available for sale from various stalls around the Mgarr church.
There is also plenty of dancing and singing, folklore events with traditional costumes and various competitions.
It’s certainly an event not to be missed, and even if weather conditions get in the way, worth waiting a little extra for.
