The Golden Globe nominations are out, and Gladiator II, which was filmed in Malta and released just last month, has received two nods. The film is up for ‘Cinematic and Box Office Achievement’ and ‘Best Supporting Actor in a Film’ for Denzel Washington’s portrayal of Macrinus.
With a global box office total of $368 million and counting, Gladiator II’s nomination for cinematic and financial success is unsurprising. Competing in this category are major blockbusters like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Inside Out 2, The Wild Robot, Wicked, Alien: Romulus, Twisters, and Deadpool & Wolverine.
In the supporting actor category, Denzel Washington faces tough competition from Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), Yuriy Borisov (Anora), Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown), Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain), and Jeremy Strong (The Apprentice).
Fans won’t have long to wait to see if Gladiator II secures the awards, with the 82nd Golden Globe Awards set to take place on Sunday 5th January. Will Malta’s cinematic backdrop be part of another awards triumph? Stay tuned!
