Such a lovely gesture.

The Ghajnsielem Local Council have installed a new project which they have dedicated to all those COVID-19 victims, their families and people who are currently struggling, as we continue the journey of Lent.

The idea behind the installation entitled "Is-Salib, Gesu u Int" “is to combine our current reality with Lent, when we reflect upon how Jesus, through his passion and death, saved us from our sins,” the council shares.

“We are all in one way or another, affected by this pandemic, with a lot of families struggling through difficult times or even suffering the loss of a loved one. We dedicate this installation to the victims who have lost their lives to Covid-19 and to their families, as well as to all those who are currently struggling through hard times in their lives.”

The project

“This project consists of more than 800 crosses made of recycled wood. The crosses are fixed to the steps of the church parvis where they will be illuminated in order to create a reflective atmosphere after sunset. In the middle of the parvis a space in the shape of a larger cross will represent Jesus. The ever-growing number of victims will be represented by crosses painted white – each white cross will represent a person who has lost their life to Covid-19.”

“Let us get through these times together by taking care of each other. Let us make our own sacrifices for the good of others and offer our crosses to Jesus, in the hope that these hard times will soon make way for better times yet to come.”

This installation has been carried out by volunteers coming from Ghaqda Drammatika Ghajnsielem and Ghaqda Armar Ghajnsielem based on the concept and ideas of the Deputy Mayor Franco Ciangura with the assistance of Joseph Ciantar. Special thanks to make this possible goes to the Ghajnsielem Local Council for its financial support and to the Archpriest and Ghajnsielem Parish for their collaboration.
